What you’re not good at is only half the story

I was inspired by my wicked sweet and super fabulous should-have-been-my-sister Diana.  She wrote an awesome post called, “What you’re not good at is only half the story”

I think we (as in women and moms) tend to focus to heavily on what we need to improve.  Not that improving is bad…it’s always good to acknowledge one’s shortcomings and want to improve them. But…we forget to see what we’re good at! Maybe we don’t want to brag.  Maybe we just don’t see it.  Maybe we don’t really think it’s important…I dunno.

I’m terrible at structure.  Kids need structure.  I suck at structure.  Which double sucks, because with SN kids, structure is even more needed.

I’m short tempered.  I’m always working to subdue my “bosom enemy” as Jo March calls it.  My short temper often leaves me with regret lingering after cruel words have long since left my mouth.  ”I’m sorry” does little to sooth the sting.

I’m absentminded.  So.stinking.forgetful.  A side effect of adult ADD or whatever…but I forget things all the time.  I forget to answer emails, return phone calls, finish thi-

I’m awful with devotional/prayer time.  I always have good intentions…but not the follow through.

But that’s only half my story.

I’m funny.  Forget that.  I’m stinking HILARIOUS.

I’m a runner!  I’m pretty good at it, and really love it.

I love my kids.  Sometimes I feel the desire to eat them and can understand why some species eat their young…but I do love them.

I can be a pretty good friend.  I’m loyal, I listen pretty well, and I’ll gladly help you any way I can.

I can cook a mean wheat-free dinner!  Food allergies sure do put a kink in things sometimes, but I am embracing it and enjoying the health that eating as cleanly as we can is bringing all of us!

I thrive in chaos and can make even the craziest place into a home, thanks to years of moving around with the military.

I am warm and cuddly and always have plenty of room for babies on my lap.

What’s your story?
